Crash on Baltimore National Pike leaves 37-year-old pedestrian dead

A 37-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle late Tuesday night on Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore County, police said. The crash occurred in the 5400 block of the roadway, in the Catonsville area, and remains under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Department’s Crash Team.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, after a report of a pedestrian crash. Investigators said the woman was attempting to cross Baltimore National Pike when she was struck by an eastbound 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC300.

The pedestrian was identified as Jessica Davis, 37. Police said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Driver taken to hospital; police have not released additional circumstances

The driver of the Mercedes was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. Authorities have not announced whether any charges have been filed, and have not provided further details about factors such as speed, lighting conditions, traffic controls, or whether impairment is suspected.

Investigators said the case remains open as they work to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the collision.

What investigators typically examine in pedestrian-crash cases

Fatal pedestrian-crash investigations generally involve a review of multiple forms of evidence. Police crash teams commonly assess the vehicle’s path of travel, the pedestrian’s crossing location, sight lines, roadway design, and whether physical evidence supports accounts of how the collision occurred.

  • Scene evidence, including skid marks, debris fields, and vehicle damage
  • Statements from the driver and any witnesses
  • Traffic-camera footage or nearby surveillance video when available
  • Lighting and weather conditions at the time of the crash
  • Roadway configuration, including lanes, shoulders, and nearby intersections

Public safety context along major corridors

Baltimore National Pike is a high-volume corridor that carries significant commuter traffic through parts of western Baltimore County. Safety advocates and transportation officials have frequently noted that pedestrian risk increases on multi-lane arterials where traffic speeds are higher and crossings can be long, particularly at night.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and have not released additional details about contributing factors.

Anyone with information related to the crash is typically encouraged to contact investigators, particularly if they witnessed the collision or were driving in the area at the time.
