Baltimore Police Arrest Jamal Gardner, Charging Him in 17 Downtown Hotel and Apartment Burglaries

Arrest made after investigators link recovered property to confirmed victims
Baltimore Police said a 34-year-old man was arrested and charged in at least 17 theft-related incidents across the city, an investigation that authorities say has also led to the recovery of property tied to multiple victims.
Police identified the suspect as Jamal Gardner. Detectives assigned to the department’s Warrant Apprehension Task Force and the Central District Detective Unit took Gardner into custody on March 4, 2026, at an apartment in the 100 block of East Fayette Street, police said.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the same location and recovered property they said is linked to 14 confirmed victims. Police also reported recovering personal identification and financial items belonging to additional individuals, including passports, state identification cards, and credit cards. Among the items described as recovered were high-value jewelry and checks.
Where investigators say the incidents occurred
Authorities said Gardner has been charged in 17 incidents, while additional incidents remain under investigation. Police characterized the alleged offenses as spanning multiple types of locations in the downtown area, including hospitality and residential properties.
- Four hotels in the downtown area
- Two apartment complexes
- One commercial robbery
What is known about victims and recovered items
Police did not publicly identify victims, specify the hotel or apartment complex names, or provide a breakdown of each incident by date and exact location. The department also did not release a total estimated value of the recovered items, nor did it say whether all property has been returned to victims.
Investigators said the recovery of victim-linked property was a key development in the case. The presence of multiple forms of identification and financial instruments suggests investigators are working to match recovered items to additional potential victims beyond the 14 already confirmed.
Investigation remains active; police seek additional victims and information
Police described the case as an active investigation and encouraged anyone who believes they may be a victim, or who has information relevant to the incidents, to contact detectives.
This story will be updated as charging documents, court proceedings, and any additional investigative findings become available.
