Notice of Holiday Observance: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
In accordance with the 2026 Baltimore City official holiday calendar, all municipal administrative offices, including the Office of the Mayor and the Baltimore City Council, will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026. This day of observance honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. While administrative operations are suspended, all emergency services, including police and fire response, remain fully operational. Regular city business will resume on Tuesday, January 20.
Department of Public Works (DPW) Sanitation Schedule
The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced that all offices and sanitation yards will be closed on Monday, January 19. Residents should take note of the following changes to waste management services:
- There will be no curbside collection of trash or recycling on Monday.
- Citizens are advised that the scheduled makeup day for Monday routes is Saturday, January 24, 2026. Residents should have their bins at the collection point by 6:00 a.m. on the makeup date.
- All citizen drop-off centers, including the Sisson Street and Northwest Transfer Stations, will be closed to the public during the holiday.
- Mechanical street sweeping operations are suspended for the day and will resume on the next scheduled cycle.
Department of Transportation (DOT) Parking Enforcement
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) has modified its enforcement protocols for the holiday. Residents and visitors should be aware of the following suspensions:
- Parking meter enforcement is suspended throughout the city on Monday, January 19.
- Residential Permit Parking (RPP) regulations will not be enforced for the duration of the holiday.
- Rush-hour parking restrictions and tow-away zone enforcement are also suspended.
- Standard safety regulations, including prohibitions against parking in crosswalks, at fire hydrants, or in designated handicapped spaces, remain in effect and will be strictly enforced to ensure public safety.
Health Department Advisory and Cold Weather Safety
The Baltimore City Health Department has issued a notice that all administrative offices and community-based health clinics will be closed on Monday, January 19. This closure includes all city-run dental and immunization clinics. Following recent Code Blue Extreme Cold Alerts issued by Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Taylor, residents are urged to maintain winter safety protocols and check on vulnerable neighbors. While clinics are closed, behavioral health support remains available through the city’s 24-hour crisis response lines.
Baltimore City Public Schools
All Baltimore City Public Schools and administrative buildings are closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of the holiday. Normal school operations, student instruction, and meal programs will resume on Tuesday, January 20.
