Health Advisory: Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert Extended

Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Taylor has officially extended the Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert through Sunday, February 1, 2026. This extension comes in response to a severe winter storm and forecasted subzero wind chills that pose a significant risk to public health. Residents are urged to limit their time outdoors and to check on elderly neighbors, children, and pets. During a Code Blue alert, the city expands emergency shelter capacity and activates additional outreach for vulnerable populations. For those in need of warming centers or shelter, please call 311 or 211 for current locations and availability.

Department of Public Works: Trash and Recycling Service Adjustments

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced critical changes to waste collection services effective through Saturday, January 31, 2026, due to ongoing icy conditions and snow accumulation. Residents should take note of the following disruptions:

  • Recycling Collection: All curbside recycling services are suspended for the remainder of this week. Collections are expected to resume on their next regularly scheduled day, weather permitting.
  • Trash Collection: While regular trash collection has resumed, crews will not be entering alleys for pickup. Residents who typically utilize alley collection must bring their trash cans to the end of the alley or to the front of their homes to ensure service.
  • Bulk Trash: All bulk trash appointments previously scheduled for earlier this week have been cancelled and will need to be rescheduled through the 311 system once conditions stabilize.

Public Safety and Community Notice: George Fallon Federal Building Demonstration

A public demonstration is scheduled to take place today, Friday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. in front of the George Fallon Federal Building located at 31 Hopkins Plaza. A coalition of justice organizations is expected to gather to protest federal operations. Local authorities advise those traveling through the downtown area to expect potential traffic delays near the federal complex. Participants and commuters are reminded that record-low temperatures are expected during the afternoon hours; please dress in multiple layers and prioritize safety while outdoors.

Baltimore City Council: Committee Hearing Rescheduling

Due to the weather emergency and the closure of city government offices earlier this week, several Baltimore City Council committee hearings have been adjusted. Notably, the hearing for the Committee on Legislative Investigations, originally set for late January, has been rescheduled to Thursday, February 5, 2026. Residents interested in providing testimony or viewing the virtual proceedings should check the City Council's legislative calendar for updated Webex links and agenda modifications.
