A juvenile male was pronounced dead after Baltimore police responded to a shooting at a residence in West Baltimore on Friday, March 6, 2026, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of West Old Cold Spring Lane shortly before 6:30 p.m. Upon arriving, police located the boy inside the home, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead.

The victim’s age and identity were not released in initial police accounts. Investigators also did not immediately disclose how many shots were fired, whether a suspect had been identified, or what circumstances led to the shooting.

Case assigned to homicide detectives; public asked to share information

Baltimore Police said homicide detectives assumed control of the investigation. Police urged anyone with information to contact detectives at 410-396-2455. Tipsters can also contact Metro Crime Stoppers using its 24-hour hotline, 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587), which accepts information anonymously and may offer cash rewards depending on the outcome of the case.

What remains unconfirmed

As of Saturday, March 7, investigators had not publicly clarified key aspects of the incident, including whether the shooting occurred during a domestic dispute, an exchange of gunfire, or another set of circumstances. Officials also had not said whether the victim lived at the home where he was found or whether anyone else was present when officers arrived.

How investigations typically proceed in fatal shootings

In homicide investigations, detectives generally work to establish a timeline, interview potential witnesses, gather surveillance video from nearby properties, and collect physical evidence from the scene and hospital. When shootings occur inside homes, investigators often examine the point of entry, the location of the victim at the time of injury, and any recovered firearms, shell casings, or other ballistic evidence.
