Health Advisory: Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert

Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Taylor has extended the Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert through the morning of Wednesday, January 21, 2026. This alert was triggered by a forecast of dangerously low wind chills reaching the single digits and teens. Residents are urged to minimize time outdoors and to check on vulnerable neighbors, including older adults and those with limited heating. The City has opened several warming centers to provide relief for those in need. Residents requiring emergency shelter or information on warming center locations should call 311. Pet owners are also reminded that it is illegal to leave pets outside in extreme weather conditions without proper protection.

Jury Duty Reporting Requirements

The Circuit Court for Baltimore City has issued reporting instructions for Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Jurors with reporting numbers 4000 through and including 5000 are required to report to Room 240 in the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse no later than 8:00 a.m. Registration concludes promptly at 9:00 a.m. Jurors are advised to wear comfortable footwear and appropriate court attire; abbreviated clothing or professional uniforms (medical, law enforcement, or military) are not permitted. If you or a member of your household has recently tested positive for COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms, please call the jury office at 410-333-3775 to reschedule.

Board of Estimates Weekly Meeting

The Board of Estimates is scheduled to hold its regular weekly meeting this morning, Wednesday, January 21, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting takes place in the Hyman Pressman Board Room on the second floor of City Hall. The Board will review municipal contracts, personnel matters, and routine city expenditures. Public Service: Seasonal Tree Mulching

The Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds residents that free Christmas tree mulching services remain available through Saturday, February 7. Baltimore City residents can bring their trees to the Sisson Street Residential Recycling Center at 2840 Sisson Street from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All lights, ornaments, and tinsel must be removed before drop-off. This program is part of the city's 2026 sustainability initiative to reduce landfill waste and provide organic material for local park maintenance.
