Official Notice: Presidents’ Day Holiday Schedules and Winter Service Updates

Holiday Operations and City Office Closures
In observance of Presidents’ Day, all Baltimore City administrative offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026. This closure includes City Hall, municipal buildings, and the Baltimore City Health Department. Residents are advised that while administrative functions are paused, essential emergency services, including police, fire, and emergency medical response, will continue to operate at full capacity. City-run senior centers and recreation centers will also observe the holiday closure, with normal operating hours set to resume on Tuesday, February 17.
Sanitation and Recycling Schedule
The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has confirmed that there will be no change to the residential trash and recycling collection schedule for the upcoming holiday. Unlike other major federal holidays, Presidents’ Day does not trigger a "holiday slide" for sanitation services. Residents whose regular collection day is Monday should set their bins out at their designated curbside or alley location as usual. DPW crews will be operating on their standard routes to ensure timely removal of household waste and recyclables across all city quadrants.
Service Alert: Street Sweeping Suspension
Public Works officials have issued a continuing service alert regarding mechanical street sweeping. As of mid-February, all mechanical street sweeping operations remain suspended citywide. This suspension is a direct result of the significant snow and ice accumulation remaining along curb lines following the recent severe winter storms. The presence of ice prevents sweeping equipment from operating effectively and poses a safety risk to operators. Residents are not currently required to move their vehicles for street sweeping until further notice. DPW will provide updates once weather conditions allow for the resumption of these services.
Winter Safety and Infrastructure Recovery
Following one of the most significant snow events in a decade earlier this month, the City continues to monitor infrastructure for safety hazards. Residents are urged to use caution when navigating sidewalks and crosswalks, as residual ice patches may still exist, particularly in shaded areas and north-facing streets. Property owners are reminded of their legal obligation to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks adjacent to their properties to ensure safe passage for pedestrians. Additionally, the Baltimore City Health Department recommends that vulnerable residents continue to take precautions against cold-weather injuries, despite the end of the recent Code Blue alert.
City Council Meeting Update
Due to the Monday holiday, the next scheduled meeting of the Baltimore City Council will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 5:00 PM. The session will be held in the Du Burns Council Chamber at City Hall. The agenda includes discussions on property tax relief strategies and various supplementary appropriations for city infrastructure projects. Residents may attend in person or view the proceedings via the city’s official live-stream platforms.
