Official Public Notice: City Council Session and Winter Emergency Advisories

Official Notice: Baltimore City Council Meeting Schedule
The Baltimore City Council will convene for a formal session on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 5:15 PM. The meeting is scheduled to take place in the Du Burns Council Chamber, located on the 4th floor of City Hall. Members of the public are invited to attend in person or view the proceedings through the city's official streaming platforms.
The agenda for this session includes several critical legislative items aimed at urban renewal and public safety:
- In Rem Foreclosure: Discussion regarding the expedited foreclosure process for vacant structures and nuisance properties to facilitate community redevelopment.
- Rental Dwelling Health and Safety: Review of new enforcement protocols for rental housing to ensure all units meet city health and safety standards.
- Executive Nominations: The Council will consider various appointments to city boards and task forces.
Public Health Advisory: Code Purple and Winter Shelter
The Baltimore City Health Department has maintained a Code Purple winter shelter activation following recent sub-freezing temperatures. While this specific activation is scheduled to conclude at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24, residents are advised that emergency protocols remain in place due to lingering ice and cold. The city’s emergency operations center continues to monitor weather trends to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations.
Residents in need of shelter or those wishing to report a neighbor in need of assistance should contact 311. Homeless outreach teams remain active throughout the city to provide blankets, water, and transportation to available warming centers.
Department of Public Works: Service Updates
The Department of Public Works (DPW) has issued the following updates regarding city services for February 24, 2026:
- Street Sweeping: Mechanical street sweeping remains suspended across all zones. This suspension is necessary as snow and ice accumulation along curb lines prevents the safe operation of sweeping equipment. Residents do not need to move their vehicles for sweeping at this time.
- Water Main Repairs: Due to a higher-than-normal volume of water main breaks caused by the extended freeze, DPW utility crews are working on rotating 12-hour shifts. Priorities are being given to breaks affecting hospitals, schools, and major transit routes.
- Trash and Recycling: Collection remains on a normal schedule, though residents are asked to clear paths to their bins and move them as close to the property line as possible to assist crews navigating icy alleys.
Citizen Reporting and 311 Reminders
The Mayor’s Office and the Office of Emergency Management urge all citizens to remain vigilant. Please use the 311 system or the mobile app to report downed trees, salt needs, or water main breaks. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, always dial 911 immediately.
