Incident on route to Vincent Farm Elementary prompts medical response and school discipline review

Fourteen Baltimore County students were taken to hospitals for evaluation after pepper spray was discharged on a school bus in the White Marsh area on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Police and school officials said the students were transported as a precaution because of the irritant’s effects.

First responders were called to the 6000 block of Ebenezer Road at about 9:30 a.m. Authorities said roughly 30 students were on the bus at the time of the exposure. The bus was traveling to Vincent Farm Elementary School.

Investigators said the available information did not indicate a malicious act. Police stated they believed a student found the pepper spray at or near a bus stop and that it was discharged accidentally while on the bus. The incident remained under investigation Wednesday.

What authorities and the school have said

School leadership notified families that students received medical attention after the discharge and that emergency personnel responded before students were sent for hospital evaluation. The school’s message also indicated that the student involved would face disciplinary action.

The incident raised renewed attention on student conduct rules governing items brought onto school transportation. Baltimore County Public Schools policy applies student behavior standards not only on school grounds, but also during travel on school buses or other official means of transportation. District policy also outlines that students who violate the student behavior code may face disciplinary action up to and including expulsion, depending on the circumstances and applicable guidelines.

How schools typically handle chemical irritants on buses

Pepper spray is designed to cause rapid irritation to eyes and airways, and even brief exposure in a confined space such as a bus can lead to coughing, burning sensations, and distress. Transporting affected students for medical evaluation is a common precaution when multiple children experience symptoms or when the amount dispersed is uncertain.

In this case, authorities said the students were taken for evaluation as a precautionary measure due to the effects of pepper spray.

Police and school officials did not report serious or life-threatening injuries in the initial statements. No criminal charges were announced Wednesday, and officials emphasized the ongoing investigation and the disciplinary process within school policy.
