State of Emergency and Government Closures

Due to the severe winter storm and ongoing hazardous road conditions, Mayor Brandon M. Scott has ordered all non-essential Baltimore City government offices to remain closed for in-person operations today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. A State of Emergency remains in effect citywide to prioritize the deployment of emergency resources and snow removal equipment. While physical buildings are closed to the public, essential and emergency personnel must report as scheduled. Residents are encouraged to utilize official online portals for payments and service requests to avoid unnecessary travel.

Baltimore City Public Schools and Board Meetings

Baltimore City Public Schools and the district’s Central Office are closed today, Tuesday, January 27. This closure serves as the second of three traditional inclement weather recovery days identified in the current academic calendar. Consequently, all scheduled school-based activities and the Board of School Commissioners' Operations and Policy Committee meetings have been canceled. These meetings will be rescheduled for a later date. The district’s virtual learning program, BRAVE, remains accessible for students during this period.

Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert

The Baltimore City Health Department has extended the current Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert through the evening of Tuesday, January 27. With wind chills forecasted to remain in the single digits, health officials advise residents to stay indoors whenever possible. Residents who must go outside should dress in multiple layers of loose-fitting clothing and cover exposed skin to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Information regarding emergency warming centers and energy assistance can be obtained by calling 311.

DPW Trash and Recycling Modifications

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is implementing temporary operational shifts for trash and recycling collection starting today. Due to significant snow accumulation and ice buildup, many residential alleys remain impassable for heavy collection vehicles. Residents who typically receive alley-side collection are requested to move their trash and recycling bins to the end of the alley or to the front curb of their properties. This adjustment ensures that crews can safely maintain collection schedules while remaining on primary plowed routes.

Transportation and Judicial Services

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has announced that Mobility service is suspended until 12:00 PM today, with a resumption of service planned for the afternoon as road conditions permit. Additionally, the Baltimore City Circuit Court and all District Court locations are closed today. While most judicial proceedings are postponed, bail review hearings will be conducted virtually. Residents with pending court dates should monitor official channels for rescheduling information once operations resume.
