Official City and State Health Advisories

The Baltimore community is advised of an ongoing health investigation regarding the George H. Fallon Federal Building located at 31 Hopkins Plaza. Federal lawmakers have formally requested a response from the General Administration (GSA) by March 20, 2026, concerning the presence of Legionella bacteria within the facility's water system. Occupants and visitors are urged to follow all posted guidance within the building as remediation efforts continue. While the facility remains open, the health and safety of federal employees and the public remain a top priority for local and state representatives.

Additionally, the Baltimore City Health Department and the Maryland Department of Health continue routine surveillance for seasonal respiratory viruses. No new emergency health orders have been issued this week, though health officials remind residents that standard infection-prevention practices remain encouraged during the late winter season.

Public Meetings and Legislative Hearings

  • Baltimore Planning Board Meeting: The Planning Board is scheduled to meet today, Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. These sessions are vital for reviewing upcoming development projects and zoning adjustments across the city. Residents are encouraged to participate in the public forum to stay informed on the evolving landscape of our neighborhoods.
  • Health Legislation Hearing: At the state level, a significant hearing is scheduled in the House today at 1:00 p.m. for House Bill 0060 (Kaitlyn’s Law). This legislation addresses sickle cell disease policies and educational campaigns within institutions of higher education.
  • City Council Update: Looking ahead, the next full Baltimore City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Du Burns Council Chamber at City Hall.

Environmental and Public Works Notices

The Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Bureau of Recreation and Parks wish to inform residents of ongoing environmental maintenance. Monitoring continues at the Minebank Run stream restoration project. Crews are currently assessing the stability of the stream and treating for invasive plant species, including yellow-groove bamboo and Asiatic bittersweet. This five-year project aims to ensure the long-term health of our local waterways and native ecosystems.

Regarding waste services, while significant delays were reported earlier this month due to scheduled maintenance at the waste-to-energy facility, normal operations have largely resumed. Residents are encouraged to utilize the 311 mobile application to report any remaining localized service disruptions or to schedule bulk trash pickups.
